What to Expect When You Hire an Interior Designer in KwaZulu-Natal

Most people who contact us have never hired an interior designer before. They have a rough idea of what they want — a proper ceiling, a wall unit that fits the room, maybe a full lounge redo — but they're not sure how the process works, what it costs, or whether they'll end up with something they actually like.

This is a straightforward walkthrough of exactly what happens when you work with us, from first contact to final handover.

First contact

You reach out — via the contact form, a phone call, or WhatsApp. We respond within 24 hours, usually the same day.

In that first conversation, we ask a few questions: What are you trying to do? What room? What's the general budget you have in mind?

You don't need to have precise answers to any of these. "I want to sort out my lounge — it feels unfinished" is enough to go on with. We ask because we want to understand whether a site visit makes sense before we commit your time and ours.

The site visit

We come to your property and look at the space. This is free.

In person, we can see things that photos don't show — the existing ceiling height, the wall proportions, the natural light, how the furniture is laid out, what the adjacent rooms look like. We ask you what you like and what you don't. We show you reference photos on a phone or tablet.

Most site visits take 30–60 minutes. By the end, we have a clear idea of what you want and whether we're the right people to do it.

There's no obligation after a site visit. If you decide you're not ready, or you want to get other quotes, that's fine.

The quote

Within a few days of the site visit, you receive a written quote. It's itemised — you can see what each element costs. There are no vague "design fees" bundled into a single number.

The quote is valid for 30 days. If material prices change significantly before you accept, we'll tell you.

If there's something on the quote you want to change — different material, different scope — we adjust it. We don't charge for quote revisions.

Approval and timeline

Once you approve the quote, we agree on a start date. We check material availability and give you a realistic schedule.

We don't overcommit. If we're busy and can't start for two weeks, we tell you that rather than booking you in and then letting you down.

For most ceiling jobs: 1–3 days. For most TV wall units: about two weeks from build start. For full room fit-outs: 2–4 weeks depending on scope.

During the build

The team arrives on the agreed day. We bring dust sheets, tools, and materials. We set up properly before we start making dust.

We give you updates as the work progresses. If something unexpected comes up — an old ceiling structure that needs remediation, or a design adjustment that makes more sense on-site — we discuss it with you before we change anything.

At the end of every working day, we clean up and remove waste. You shouldn't be sitting in a construction zone overnight.

The handover

When the work is done, we do a walkthrough together. You point out anything that isn't right and we fix it before we leave. We don't consider the job finished until you're happy.

We take final photos of the completed work.

After the job

For most work, we're easy to reach on WhatsApp if a small thing comes up in the weeks after — a touch-up, a question about maintenance, whatever it is. We don't disappear after payment.

We also appreciate referrals. If the work was good enough to show someone else, tell them to contact us.

What it's not

We're not a large architecture or design firm. We don't produce technical drawings for structural changes. We don't manage major construction projects involving plumbing, structural steel, or large commercial fitouts.

What we do: ceilings, custom joinery and wall units, paint and finish specification, and the coordination of full interior fit-outs for residential and small commercial spaces across KwaZulu-Natal.

If that's what you need, we're probably the right people.

If you have a project in mind — even if it's still vague — get in touch and we'll come out for a look.
